Enhancements will give us a level of control over our bodies that we have never before dreamed of: our physical appearance, personalities, cognitive and physical abilities, and emotions will all be malleable at the touch of a button, swallow of a pill, or some other newfangled method. Can religion survive in a world like that? Religiosity is already on the decline — will a larger number of people turn away from the worship of a creator when they can create so much for themselves? Consider another compounding effect: poor countries are more likely to be religious, and poor, religious countries are far more likely to either reject enhancement technology or fail to afford it. Could it therefore be that those who try to maintain their religion will be those who will be unable to compete in an enhanced world, and are quickly left behind?
